How many tiles do I need for a room?
Divide the room area by one tile's coverage area (including its grout line), then add 10% waste for cuts: a 20 m² floor with 60×60 cm tiles needs about 61 tiles including breakage and offcuts.
How much waste should I allow for tiling?
10% is standard for straightforward rectangular rooms; increase to 15–20% for diagonal layouts, rooms with lots of corners, or your first tiling project, since cut pieces are rarely reusable.
How do grout lines affect the tile count?
Wider grout lines mean each tile effectively covers slightly less floor, very slightly increasing the tile count needed — the effect is small for standard 3mm joints but matters more with wide 10mm+ joints.
