How it works
Area = length × width × (1 + waste%); cost = area × priceFrequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate carpet needed?
Multiply room length by width for the area, then add 10% for cuts and seams: a 5 × 4 m room needs about 22 m² of carpet. Irregular rooms should be split into rectangles and summed.
Why add a waste allowance?
Carpet comes in fixed roll widths (commonly 3.66 m / 12 ft), so fitting a room almost always leaves offcuts, and patterned carpet needs extra to match seams. 10% is typical; 15% for complex layouts.
Should I measure in square metres or square yards?
Either — suppliers quote both. This calculator shows square metres and square feet; multiply m² by 1.196 for square yards.
