Paycheck Calculator by State (2026)
Your take-home pay depends heavily on where you live: nine states take nothing from your wages while others take over 10% at the top. Pick your state for a calculator preloaded with its 2026 income tax rates, plus federal tax and FICA.
How take-home pay is calculated
Every US paycheck loses the same three federal pieces: federal income tax (10%–37% across the 2026 brackets, after the $16,100 single / $32,200 married standard deduction), Social Security (6.2% on the first $184,500 of wages) and Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000). What differs is the fourth piece — state income tax — which ranges from zero in states like Texas and Florida to nearly 13% at the top in California. Some cities and counties add a local income tax on top; the state pages note where that applies.
