Scaling factor = desired servings ÷ original servings; new amount = original × factor

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scale a recipe?
Divide the servings you want by the servings the recipe makes to get a factor, then multiply every ingredient by it. Doubling from 4 to 8 servings is a factor of 2; going from 6 to 4 is a factor of 0.67.
Do all ingredients scale the same way?
Quantities do, but not always cooking time, pan size, or leavening and salt at extremes — a 4× cake won't bake in the same tin or time. Scale ingredients here, then adjust cookware and time with judgment.
How do I convert between servings and a factor?
Enter your original and desired servings and the calculator shows the exact factor, plus a worked example for one ingredient so you can apply it to the rest.
