How it works
Coffee (g) = water (g) ÷ ratio; water (g) ≈ cups × 250Frequently Asked Questions
What is the golden ratio for coffee?
The widely-cited golden ratio is about 1:16 — one gram of coffee to sixteen grams of water. For 500 g (about two large cups) of water that's roughly 31 g of coffee. Adjust to taste: 1:15 is stronger, 1:17 milder.
How much coffee per cup?
At a 1:16 ratio with a 250 ml cup, about 15–16 g of coffee per cup. Scales, not scoops, give consistent results — coffee bean density varies too much for volume measures.
Does grind size matter more than ratio?
Both matter: the ratio sets strength, the grind sets extraction. Get the ratio right first with a scale, then dial in grind size for your brew method (coarse for French press, fine for espresso).
