How it works
Needed score = target average × (n+1) − sum of existing scoresFrequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate what I need on my next test?
Multiply your target average by the total number of tests (including the upcoming one), then subtract the sum of your existing scores: averaging 82, 88, 75 so far and wanting an 85 average across 4 tests needs (85×4) − 245 = 95 on the next test.
What if the score needed is impossible?
If it's over 100%, your target average isn't reachable with one more test — you'd need either a lower target, extra credit, or to improve the average across more remaining tests instead of just one.
Does this work for any number of prior tests?
Yes — just make sure the 'number of tests so far' matches how many scores you're including in the sum, so the total count (n+1) correctly includes the upcoming test.
