How it works

Needed score = (target − current×(1−weight)) ÷ weight

Frequently Asked Questions

What score do I need on my final to get an A?
Rearrange the weighted average: needed score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final's weight)) ÷ final's weight. With an 85% current grade, a 90% target, and the final worth 30%, you'd need about 101.7% — meaning a straight 90% might not be reachable and you should check your current grade or the weighting.
What if the required score is over 100%?
It means your target isn't achievable even with a perfect final, given your current grade and the final's weight — a signal to either revise your target or find extra-credit opportunities if available.
How is my current grade weighted into the final grade?
Your grade before the final counts for (1 − final's weight): if the final is 25% of the course, your current average is effectively 75% of your final course grade, with the exam contributing the remaining 25%.
