How it works
The tip is the bill multiplied by the tip rate: Tip = Bill × (Tip% ÷ 100). The total is the bill plus the tip, and the per person amount is the total divided by the number of people sharing.
Frequently asked questions
What is a standard tip percentage?
In many places 15 to 20 percent is common for table service, with 18 percent a frequent default. Customs vary by country, so adjust to local norms.
How do I split a bill evenly?
Enter the number of people and the calculator divides the total, including tip, equally among everyone.
Should I tip on the pre tax or post tax amount?
Both are accepted. Tipping on the pre tax subtotal is slightly more common, but many people tip on the full total for simplicity.
