How it works

A percentage is a fraction out of 100. The core formulas are:

  • X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y
  • X is what percent of Y = (X ÷ Y) × 100
  • Percentage change = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100

Example: 20% of 150 = (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30. A change from 80 to 100 is ((100 − 80) ÷ 80) × 100 = 25% increase.
