How it works
A = P × (1 + r/4)^(4t) for quarterly compoundingFrequently Asked Questions
How is FD interest calculated?
Most banks compound fixed deposits quarterly: ₹1,00,000 at 7% for 3 years matures at about ₹1,23,144. The quarterly compounding makes the effective yield slightly higher than the stated rate.
What is the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative FD?
Cumulative FDs reinvest interest and pay everything at maturity (this calculator's default). Non-cumulative FDs pay interest out monthly or quarterly for regular income — the maturity value is then just the principal.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes — FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks deduct TDS above a threshold. Senior citizens often get a higher rate and a larger tax-free interest allowance.
