How do I know which grocery size is the better deal?
Divide each option's price by its quantity to get a price per unit: a $5.99 24oz bottle (25¢/oz) versus a $3.49 12oz bottle (29.1¢/oz) — the larger bottle is actually cheaper per ounce, despite costing more upfront.
Is buying in bulk always cheaper per unit?
Usually, but not always — sometimes a mid-size package is on sale and beats the bulk size's regular unit price. Always check the actual unit price shown on shelf tags or calculate it yourself rather than assuming bigger is automatically better.
Does unit price account for quality differences?
No — it only compares raw cost efficiency. A cheaper unit price on a lower-quality product isn't necessarily the better overall value if you need more of it or the item performs worse; factor in quality separately.
