How it works

Overtime rate = hourly rate × multiplier; weekly pay = base hours × rate + OT hours × OT rate

Frequently Asked Questions

How is time and a half calculated?
Multiply your regular hourly rate by 1.5: $20/hour becomes $30/hour for overtime. Under the US FLSA, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5× for hours beyond 40 in a week.
Is overtime taxed at a higher rate?
No — overtime is taxed like all wages. Withholding on a big-OT paycheck can look heavier because the payroll system annualizes that week, but it evens out at tax filing.
What is double time?
A 2× multiplier some employers or states apply to holidays or long days (California requires it beyond 12 hours in a day). Switch the multiplier below to see it.
