Frequently Asked Questions

How much mulch do I need for 100 square feet?
At the standard 3-inch depth, about 0.93 cubic yards — one yard covers roughly 108 sq ft at 3 inches, or 162 sq ft at 2 inches.
How many bags equal a cubic yard?
13.5 of the common 2 cu ft bags, or 27 of the 1 cu ft bags. Bulk delivery is usually cheaper beyond 2–3 yards.
How deep should mulch be?
2–3 inches for beds (weed suppression without suffocating roots); keep it a few inches clear of trunks and stems to prevent rot.
