How it works
Posts = length ÷ spacing + 1; pickets = length ÷ (picket width + gap)Frequently Asked Questions
How many fence posts do I need?
Divide the run by the post spacing and add one for the end: 100 ft at 8 ft spacing needs 13 posts. Corners and gates add posts on top.
How deep should fence posts go?
A third of the post's above-ground height, minimum 2 ft — a 6 ft fence wants 8 ft posts set about 2 ft deep in concrete (roughly one 50 lb bag per post).
How many pickets per foot of fence?
Run length ÷ (picket width + gap): 3.5 in pickets with a 2 in gap cover 5.5 in each, so about 2.2 pickets per foot — 218 pickets for 100 ft.
